This test measures the levels of porphobilinogen in urine collected over a 24-hour period. Porphobilinogen is an intermediate in the heme biosynthesis pathway. Elevated levels of urinary porphobilinogen can indicate acute intermittent porphyria, a rare genetic disorder characterized by enzyme deficiencies in heme production. 

 

 

Test Preparation :

Urine must be collected in dark color vial/container, wrapped completely with black paper or aluminium foil. Uncoveredlight exposed to light will not be accepted.
