Scrub typhus is a bacterial infection caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi, which is transmitted to humans through the bite of a larval trombiculid mite or chigger. The test detects the presence of specific immunoglobulin G antibody against the scrub typhus bacteria in the bloodstream. The most common symptoms are fever, headache, body aches and sometimes rashes.
